Sacraments and Ministries

If you would like to have your child baptised, please speak to Fr Bill after any Mass.  The baptism and reception of adults usually happens at the Easter Vigil, after a course of preparation.

First Holy Communion

Preparation takes place at St Joseph’s School, starting in the autumn of each year.  For other children wanting to make their First Holy Communion, contact Fr Bill.

Preparation usually takes place at St Joseph’s School, starting in January each year.  Others hoping to be confirmed should speak to Fr Bill..

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the way to learn about the Catholic faith and begin a journey that will lead to becoming a Catholic.  Preparation is over a period of months and involves Fr Bill and catechists, and possibly other candidates or even other members of your family.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Confessions are heard on Saturday from 11 am to 11.45 or by appointment.  During Advent and Lent, a Service of Reconciliation is arranged either at St Joseph’s or our neighbouring parish, Our Lady and St Chad, Kirkbymoorside.

Daily Mass

See the Weekly Bulletin for any changes that may occur to daily Mass times.  To have a Mass offered for your intention, please speak to Fr Bill, or look for the brown Mass request envelopes by the statue of St Anthony at the back of the church.

Couples hoping to be married at St Joseph’s Church should speak to Fr Bill before any other plans are made.

Funerals at St Joseph’s are arranged through the funeral director according to the family’s request.  It is important to let your family know what sort of funeral you want, especially if they are not active Catholics themselves.

Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life

God calls people to be priests and to the religious life in many ways, and he may be calling you!  Go to the Vocations website, or have a word with Fr Bill.

Ministers of the Word and Eucharistic Ministers

Parishioners take on these special ministries at the invitation of the parish priest,  helping at Mass by reading or distributing Holy Communion, both during Mass in in people’s homes.  For the current rota, click here.
